TEXAS TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Valley Community College is getting ready to open a free grocery store for students on its campus in Texas Township.
Student wellbeing and thriving director Monteze Morales says she did not want KVCC to not do anything after a survey revealed over 45% of students have some form of housing or food insecurity.
The store has had a soft open and students can submit an application to be able to shop there.
Morales says the application does not ask for any financial information and only asks for their household size and ZIP code.
KVCC has ordered 15,000 pounds of food for the store.
