BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Calhoun County Treasurer Melinda Weaver is partnering with Independent Bank to announce the launch of the Calhoun County Homebuyer Assistance Program.
It’s an effort to help address the housing crisis and support homeownership opportunities in the community.
The program is designed to help eligible residents overcome financial barriers to purchasing a home.
Qualified applicants may receive up to $6,000 in down payment assistance from the Calhoun County Treasurer’s Office, along with up to $2,000 from Independent Bank to help cover closing costs.
Weaver says to qualify, applicants need to purchase a primary residence in Calhoun County; earn no more than 120% of the county’s Area Median Income; attend pre-purchase homebuyer counseling; secure financing through Independent Bank; and contribute at least $1,000 toward the purchase.
“Homeownership is a key part of building stable families and strong communities,” says Weaver. “This partnership allows us to provide meaningful assistance to buyers who are ready to take that step but need help overcoming upfront costs.”
Residents interested in learning more or beginning the application process should contact Independent Bank at (269) 491-3049 or visit IndependentBank.com/CalhounCountyTreasurer.
