TOKYO, Feb 5 (Reuters) – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co plans mass-production of 3-nanometre advanced chips at its Kumamoto plant in Japan, investing about $17 billion, Japanese newspaper Yomiuri reported on Thursday.
Japan, which has subsidised TSMC to boost chipmaking capacity in the southern region of Kumamoto, is considering additional support for the new investment plan, Yomiuri added, citing a Japanese government source.
TSMC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
