PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A brand-new fast-food restaurant opens in the city of Portage next week and city officials are worried Raising Cane’s could be raising traffic problems along its main thoroughfare.
It has happened before with popular new sites.
This one is particularly worrisome because it’s located at one of the busiest intersections in the county, Westnedge and Milham, and so the city is putting temporary rules in place.
Beginning next Tuesday, drive-thru customers will be required to queue in the far right lane northbound on Westnedge Avenue and be mindful of other businesses in the area.
Mayor Patricia Randall says they open Tuesday morning.
Once customers have their chicken, they will be required to depart from the area east on Milham and follow posted routes and electronic signboards.
The city has also posted an advisory that if you can avoid the area altogether for a while after the place opens, it may be a good idea.
