FORT WAYNE,IN (WKZO AM/FM) – A 29-year-old Kristina Burch of Kalamazoo , was arrested and charged this week in connection with the January 28 shooting death of 19-year-old Damion Jacobs in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
While Fort Wayne Police initially charged Burch with murder, the charge was later downgraded to obstruction of justice , a level 6 felony, after investigators traveled to Kalamazoo to interview her.
Burch is currently being held in the Allen County Jail without bond.
According to court documents, Burch told detectives she was the victim of an attempted robbery by Jacobs and an unidentified woman.
She alleged that the other woman accidentally shot Jacobs while aiming at her, after which Burch removed Jacobs from her car , fled the scene, and disposed of evidence including his phone and gun.
Although police were able to corroborate parts of her story, she was charged for cleaning blood from her rental car and discarding key evidence before returning to Kalamazoo.
