DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers and veteran pitcher Justin Verlander have agreed on a one-year, $13-million contract.
The 42-year-old Tigers icon last played for Detroit in August 2017 before being traded to the Houston Astros, where he won the World Series in 2017 and 2022.
Verlander also played for the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants before rejoining Detroit.
He has pitched three no-hitters, two of those with the Tigers in 2007 and 2011.
Verlander has a career record of 266 wins, 158 losses with a 3.32 Earned Run Average.
He was Detroit’s top pick in the 2004 draft out of Old Dominion and was the second player chosen that year.
Verlander has won the American League Cy Young Award three times in 2011, 2019, and 2022, was the 2006 American League Rookie of the Year, and won the league’s Most Valuable Player award in 2011.
