OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says speed appears to be a factor in fatal crash late Saturday night in Ostemo Township.
Around 11:40 p.m. Kalamazoo Consolidated Dispatch Authority
received several 911 phone calls about the crash on West Main Street near North 10th Street. First responders were dispatched and found a
two-vehicle accident, and the driver of one vehicle was unresponsive.
Thry say life-saving efforts were performed, and a 49-year-old driver was transported by ambulance to a
local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Office says it appears both vehicles were westbound on West Main when the collision occurred, sending one vehicle into a parking lot where it struck an unoccupied third vehicle.
A portion of West Main Street was
closed off for several hours during the investigation.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office
was assisted by the Oshtemo Township Fire Department, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Western Michigan University Police Department, and Life EMS.
