COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A man riding a scooter just north of Coldwater was struck and killed Thursday afternoon in Branch County’s Coldwater Township.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office says around 12:45 p.m. a 60-year-old Coldwater man was traveling southbound on Union City Road near the Narrows Road intersection on an electric scooter when he was struck by a passenger vehicle operated by an 89-year-old Coldwater resident.
First responders from Life Care Ambulance and the Coldwater Fire Department performed immediate life-saving measures on the scene. Despite those efforts, the man riding the scooter died from his injuries.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle were reported uninjured.
There was heavy rain throughout the early afternoon, and investigators believe weather conditions may have been a contributing factor in the collision.
The incident remains under investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, with technical assistance provided by the Michigan State Police Reconstruction Unit, Branch County Central
Dispatch, and the Branch County Road Commission.
