KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Housing Resources Incorporated is holding their annual Walk to End Homelessness on Saturday, March 21st.
Hundreds of volunteers will take to the streets of Kalamazoo to raise awareness and resources for programs that help people experiencing homelessness.
HRI executive director Michelle Davis says the need for housing continues to run up against rising costs and shrinking funding.
Last year alone, HRI provided over $1-million in financial help to people facing a housing crisis, eviction or homelessness. Davis says HRI also served over 3,800 households, including coordinated entry, eviction diversion assessments, and winter shelter screenings.
In the weeks leading up to the walk, participants can sign up and pledge support. Registration is now live at this link.
The 5K walk will go from Homer Stryker Field along the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail to HRI’s Rickman House in downtown Kalamazoo and back to the stadium. Check-in starts at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 a.m.
The walk is open to everyone and leashed dogs are also welcome.
