VICKSBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) β The Village of Vicksburg has just received another major financial boost for the continuing upgrade of its sewer system.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development has approved a $6,960,000 loan to help the village install a new sewer force main, repair existing sanitary sewer lines on Sprinkle Road with lining, upgrade the Spruce Street lift station and construct a biofiltration system at the intersection of Zylman Avenue and Sprinkle Road.
USDA Michigan State Director Dom Restuccia Restuccia says, βIt represents a long-term investment in the wastewater system, protecting groundwater quality for future generations to enjoy.β
A previous $2.8 million USDA loan, part of a multi-year infrastructure overhaul to replace 80-year-old sewer, stormwater, and water systems , was awarded in 2021 to replace undersized pipes and upgrading lift stations, specifically targeting the area between the Spruce Street and Washington Street lift stations.
Those upgrades were aimed at reducing utility costs, decrease stress on the older sewer system, and support high-growth areas on the west side of the village.
