KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy are both in the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on several weapons charges.
The two were arrested Monday by the Kalamazoo Crime Reduction Team.
Officers were doing directed patrol at Interfaith Homes related to gun violence and saw a 14-year-old who was wanted for a weapons offense in Kalamazoo County. They also noticed the 16-year-old talking with the younger boy, and say both were “demonstrating characteristics of being armed with firearms.”
The two then got into a vehicle as passengers, adnd a traffic stop was done in the 1600 block of North Westnedge Avenue. Both were seen removing an item from each of their waistbands and motioning toward the vehicle’s floor.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a firearm at the feet of each suspect. One was reported stolen in the city of Kalamazoo in 2023.
