KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, and Michigan State Police arrested 37-year-old Nelson Cobas Thursday evening on outstanding warrants for the shooting death in Kalamazoo of Jamel Coleman.
The 35-year-old victim was shot and killed at a child’s birthday party on February 22nd.
Cobas and Coleman got into an argument outside the venue, and Cobas shot Coleman several times before he fled the scene.
He was arrested on a seven-count felony warrant, with charges including open murder, assault with intent to murder, and three counts of felony firearm.
Cobas was arraigned March 13th and bond was denied.
