WASHINGTON, DC (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan’s two U.S. senators are asking the National Weather Service why a tornado watch was not in place on March 6th when four tornadoes ripped through the southwest part of the state.
Senators Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin have sent a letter to Weather Service Director Kenneth Graham, asking if “a lack of staff and/or resources” were part of the reasons the NWS didn’t issue a watch.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office also had the same question after the tornadoes hit.
Tornado warnings were issued for the four twisters that hit Edwardsburg, Three Rivers, Union City, and Clarendon Township, killing four people and destroying dozens of homes.
