GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Officials with the city of Grand Rapids say they are not going to speculate on actions that could be taken after United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta says Cesar Chavez groomed and sexually abused her and other young girls.
Chavez co-founded United Farm Workers in 1962, helping thousands of people get better work conditions and pay, and Huerta says she stayed quiet for 60 years for concern that if she spoke out, it would hurt the farmworker movement.
He fathered two of her children before he died at 66-years-old in 1993.
Grand Rapids Public Schools named an elementary school after Chavez, the city named a street after him, and a celebration of Chavez is held every year in the city.
