KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 11, 2026) – The West Michigan regional economy is apparently continuing to grow – modestly.
That’s a conclusion from the monthly survey of purchasing managers in the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo markets, released earlier this week by the Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University. New orders rose sharply to a four-year high, while production also increased significantly, reflecting national and international trends.
However, the ongoing tariff situation, as well as the conflict with Iran, has to be taken into consideration, as well as a factor not garnering much attention, according to Dr. Brian Long, director of supply management research at GVSU.
Employment and lead times fell slightly in February from January levels, according to this survey.
