KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/DM) – While they don’t believe it was related to a fatal shooting over the weekend, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says an 18-year-old female was shot at another large gathering in the city early Monday morning.
Just before 2:30 a.m. Department of Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of South Westnedge Avenue in response to a reported shooting.
When they arrived, officers found the teenage female suffering from a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.
The victim was conscious and alert at the scene and was transported by LIFE EMS to a local hospital for treatment.
The KDPS preliminary investigation indicates a gathering was taking place near that location earlier in the evening. At some point, two unknown individuals were reportedly involved in a confrontation and were asked to leave the property.
The victim was standing in front of a window when gunshots were fired from outside. One of the rounds penetrated the window and struck her. A parked vehicle on nearby Fairfax Avenue was also struck by gunfire.
At this time, investigators do not believe this incident is connected to the fatal shooting that occurred on April 12 in the 400 block of East North Street.
The department is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the KDPS.
