KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Western Michigan University Bronco hockey team isn’t the only Kalamazoo team to bring home a national trophy this spring.
WMU’s Dance Team won the 2025 D1 Jazz National Championships, beating teams from Eastern and Central Michigan universities, the Florida Gulf Coast and South Alabama to take the crown in Orlando this past weekend.
Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s basketball team made it to the finals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa late last month.
KVCC Vice President Danny Alexander says they are very proud of the Cougars.
“They made it to the Final Four, they finished 4th, but not without a fight. It was a great time for our student athletes, also a great time to highlight Kalamazoo Valley Community College,” says Alexander.
The team plays in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II and has their conference championship trophy to put on display.
Like the WMU hockey team, it was the first time the two teams made it to the national finals.
