KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 29-year-old man is in the Kalamazoo County Jail and faces multiple felony charges after a drug raid by police Thursday.
Members of the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and Crime Reduction Team, with the assistance of the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives executed a search warrant in the 2200 block of Gull Road, following an investigation into drug sales.
Police say prior to the execution of the search warrant at the residence, the suspect was contacted and detained in the 3600 block of East Main Street. He was found to be concealing a stolen firearm, which had been modified with a “switch,” thus making it a fully automatic handgun. Additionally, he was in possession of a large sum of US currency, which is believed to be profits of drug sales.
The search of the residence yielded two additional firearms, approximately 2.5 ounces of cocaine and crack cocaine, and evidence of drug manufacturing and distribution.
The firearm that the suspect had been in possession of had been reported stolen out of Henderson County, Tennessee. The man had been previously convicted of felony charges and cannot legally possess a firearm or ammunition.
Additionally, the suspect was out on bond on an unrelated felony charge.
