KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University has come up with a name for its latest housing project.
Vice President for Student Affairs Diane Anderson says it will be called “The Golden Oaks.”
“The complex situated on the former Valley-3 site consists of 691 units housing up to 1018 residents,” says Anderson.
Construction is underway replacing the former Harrison/Stinson and Eldridge/Fox residence halls with a brand-new facility that will provide more shared public spaces for students and more private spaces away from the rooms.
Tens of thousands of Western students have spent time living in the Goldsworth Valley dorms, which have also been renamed.
“The entire valley housing complex consisting of a new residence hall, Valley 2 and Valley 1 be referred to as The Valleys, because it already is actually.”
She says the new complex will open in August of next year.
The units will be reserved for first year students.
The university has replaced several residential complexes in the past few years, mostly replacing older ones, some of the new ones clearly visible from Stadium Drive.
