PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – One person is in custody and facing multiple felony charges after a gunshot and drug bust in Portage.
Wednesday members of the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) and Crime Reduction Team (CRT) with the assistance of Drug Enforcement Administration
(DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) executed a search warrant in the 8500 block of Newells Lane in Portage, following an investigation into drug sales and illegal weapon possession.
Police say prior to the execution of the search warrant at the residence, the suspect was contacted and detained without incident in the 1100 block of Lake Street in Kalamazoo.
The investigation concluded with the seizure of methamphetamine, evidence of drug manufacturing and distribution and a large sum of US currency, which is believed to be
profits of drug sales. Additionally, three handguns, one of which was a “Tec-9,” two rifles, a shotgun, and two suppressors were seized. One of the firearms seized had an obliterated
serial number.
The 35-year-old male suspect has been previously convicted of felony charges and cannot legally possess a firearm or ammunition. He is lodged at the
Kalamazoo County Jail.
