TEXAS TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Texas Township will hold a commemoration on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. of the May 7, 2024 tornado that started in the Colony Woods neighborhood and continued into Portage and Pavilion Township.
The commemoration will be outdoors on the Swan Street cul-de-sac, which was among the hardest hit areas of Texas Township.
Colony Wood Neighborhood Association president and Texas Township supervisor JoAnne O’Rourke will speak along with state Senator Sean McCann, state Representative Matt Longjohn.
Reverend April Gutierrez, pastor of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Portage and a resident of Colony Woods will offer a blessing for the continued recovery.
Music will be provided by the Chapel Hill Chancel Choir and Michael Rubin.
Texas Township Fire and Rescue will also participate in the commemoration.
Food trucks from Colony Woods resident Eric Tate’s Top Shelf Catering and Sweet Caroline’s ice cream will be on-hand, and festivities will include several activities for kids.
Golf cart tours will be available for the press and elected officials wishing to see the status of the recovery and remaining work.
