KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The 33rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be held Saturday.
It is put on by the National Association of Letter Carriers and is the largest one-day food drive n the U.S.
In Kalamazoo County, it is run by the members of the Letter Carrier Branch 246, and the food drive collects over 90,000 pounds of food every year for Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, Salvation Army of Kalamazoo, and Christian Neighbors.
To donate, you need ot leave non-perishable, unopened food donations near your mailbox Saturday morning. Your mail carrier and dozens of volunteers will handle the rest.
Food items that are most in need include high-protein canned soups, cereal, protein drinks, baking mixes, pop-top cans, snacks, and microwaveable items. Donations will be picked up, rain or shine. If you would prefer to make a monetary gift, visit kzoolf.org and click DONATE.
Over 35,000 people in Kalamazoo County face food insecurity daily and over 8,700 of those individuals are children.
Food drives like this help fill the gap for so many whose budgets leave very little for food, especially during this time of record high food costs.
