KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Officials with the City of Kalamazoo say crews working “with all deliberate speed” to respond to storm damage throughout the city.
City Public Services crews have responded to reports of downed trees and power lines and are cleaning up fallen trees and limbs. Crews are prioritizing trees blocking major streets, and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is coordinating with Consumers Energy to address downed power lines.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public safety last night responded to over 200 calls for service ranging from downed trees blocking roadways, downed wires and wires on vehicles, trees that fell on or into houses, numerous gas leaks, and other concerns.
Multiple streets and intersections throughout the city are blocked or partially blocked, and motorists are urged to use extreme caution as crews respond to the storm. If a street traffic signal at an intersection is out, motorists are urged to treat it as a 4-way stop unless signed otherwise.
The severe weather also caused power outages at some City of Kalamazoo water stations. As a result of those outages, other water stations are being used to meet demands, water stations are being put on generators, and some water mains are seeing changes in flow direction.
All systems remain operational, under pressure, and are meeting treatment technique. While city officials says there is no immediate concern for the public, customers may experience some discoloration of water due to the flow disruptions.
