PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Following the severe storms Thursday night, the City of Portage says it will incorporate storm debris removal into its ongoing brush pickup program. Brush pickup is currently underway as part of the regular schedule:
• Zone 3 is scheduled for pickup the week of May 19.
• Zone 4 is scheduled for pickup the week of May 26.
Residents in Zones 3 and 4 should place storm-related tree debris at the roadside to be included in their regularly scheduled pickup. Zone Due to the anticipated high volume of debris, delays are possible.
To assist residents in Zones 1 and 2, which have already received their regular brush pickup, the city will provide an additional pickup specifically for storm debris:
• Zone 1 is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of June 1
• Zone 2 is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of June 9
City officials say these dates are subject to change based on volume and weather conditions.
Preparation guidelines for all zones:
• Cut branches into sections no longer than 6 feet
• Tree trunks will be accepted if cut into manageable sections
• Stumps will not be accepted
While access to the Oakland Drive Compost Facility is typically limited to municipal use, it will be open to Portage residents Saturday, May 31, from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for storm debris drop-off. Proof of residency is required. The compost facility is located at 10905 Oakland Drive just south of Osterhout Avenue.
Additional drop-off opportunities are being considered and will be announced as details are finalized.
