KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Parents at Parkwood-Upjohn and Winchell elementary schools are appealing to Kalamazoo Public Schools officials not to cut their assistant librarian this fall. She currently works part time in both schools.
They fear it will reduce their children’s aptitudes, abilities and access to books.
Superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says the school principal cut that position from their budget, not central staff, and none of those lessons will be lost. He says the primary function of the assistant librarian is to make sure that books are returned and reshelved.
He says other library staff would be assigned to make sure books were returned to their proper place.
