KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Consumers Energy wants to charge us more for our power.
The utility was approved recently for a $154 million rate hike, and they are now asking the Michigan Public Service Commission for another $436 million increase.
That would increase residential costs by about 13.3%.
Attorney General Dana Nessel is opposed to the proposed increase, calling “appalling.” She says customers would be priced out of their ability to afford electricity.
Consumers Energy says the hike is needed to upgrades to reliability and service.
Nessel is urging the MPSC to scrutinize the request.
