KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo city commissioners have scheduled their first round of interviews in their search for a new city manager this afternoon. They are not with candidates, but with executive search firms interested in doing the recruiting.
Kalamazoo Human Services director James Henderson says they got a good response when they asked for bids on the job.
“Actually we had 10 firms that put in there, we had a mix of local and national firms that the subcommittee were able to score.”
A subcommittee of the city commission narrowed that list to three finalists, using a number of criteria, including their commitment to diversity.
“All of these firms basically have some form of commitment to that, so whatever firm that’s chosen I think we can feel pretty safe.”
Vice Mayor Jeanne Hess says they used a weighted grid system to rate them.
“Professional credentials and experience in conducting similar search assignments, and stability and resources of the firms and then the satisfaction of recent clients and the financial proposal,” she says.
The interviews will begin at 4 p.m., wrap up before their evening meeting at 7 p.m., and the choice will be made during that meeting.
