KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Employees of Kalamazoo County parks will be working today. To mark the Juneteenth holiday, the county is waiving entrance fees all day at all their locations.
Parks director David Rachowicz says it’s something they have been doing for several years now.
“It’s a way to celebrate Juneteenth, the start of summer, to get people out to enjoy the parks and have a fun time with their family and friends, so we invite everyone in the public come out to a county park.”
He says that includes Kalamazoo County’s newest park, The Woollam Preserve, which began full operations just last week at the site of a former Boy Scout camp in Texas Township.
Rachowicz says they started kayak rentals on Tuesday.
“Available for the public to use on Bass Lake, you can go fishing or just go for a nice peaceful kayak ride around the lake.”
The 212-acre Arthur & Mildred Woollam Nature Preserve is located at 6578 Texas Drive.
