UPDATE: The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office has now identified the victim as Xavier Randolph of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
SAUGATUCK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Aftet 10 drownings were reported across the state during the July 4th holiday weekend, another happened Tuesday afternoon in Lake Michigan north of Saugatuck.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputies were dispatched around 2:15 p.m. for a subject unaccounted for in the water after swimming off a vessel without a life preserver.
At 6:01 p.m. hours divers from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of the 18-year-old male.
No other details of the incident are yet available as an investigation into the matter continues.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Allegan County Dive/Rescue Team, Saugatuck Fire Department, Holland Department of Public Safety, Graafschap Fire Department, United States Coast Guard, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and American Medical Response, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Allegan County Victim’s Services Unit, Ottawa County Victim’s Services Unit and Western Michigan School of Medicine.
