PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage residents impacted by the May 7, 2024 tornadoes have until this Thursday, July 31 to apply for financial assistance through the Residential Application for Tornado Relief.
City officials say all supporting documents must also be received by August 22, 2025 for applications to be considered.
The program, administered by After the Storm–Michigan Disaster Response and Recovery, will close to new applications after that date.
“We’ve received a strong response from Portage residents,” said Nancy Money, Executive Director of After the Storm. “While we are no longer able to accept new
applications after July 31, we remain committed to helping those already in the system receive the assistance they need to recover.”
Assistance through the program covered a wide range of tornado-related expenses, including home repairs, debris removal, temporary housing, and replacement
of essential household items.
Following the closure of the application period, a final report will be released summarizing the total number of households served and the types of assistance provided.
