KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County created a community grant portal to organize how they hand out money to community non-profits who have specific programs in mind.
They committed $400,000 in funding and asked for proposals from community non-profits and organizations. Commissioners will select the best proposals that meet the county’s strategic goals, and they will have their work cut out.
Administrator Kevin Catlin announced this week that they have received 61 applications by the deadline.
He says the total amount requested was $7.2 million or nearly eight-times more than they set aside to hand out.
County commissioners have been provided with a list of the applicants, a short summary of their requests, and access to all the applications.
The final winners will be selected as a part of this year’s budget deliberations for funding next year.
