KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s the first Tuesday in August, and that means National Night Out.
Several events are planned in the Kalamazoo area to get neighbors to meet neighbors, rub elbows with public safety officials and build bridges, at a time when it seems the gaps between us all are getting larger.
Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema says City Hall will be well represented at the seven events in town this evening.
“Representatives from my office and public safety will be out together and visiting various neighborhood events.”
Vice Mayor Jeanne Hess says they will have surveys available at the events for anyone who wants to offer an opinion on what they would like to see in the next city manager.
“Get out, get to know your neighbors, and celebrate, and a big thanks to the City Manager and Public Safety for participating in those,” says Hess.
The Night Out events get underway in the Northside, Arcadia & Westnedge Hill neighborhoods at 4 p.m., at 5 p.m. in Millwood & Vine, and at 6 p.m. in the Edison and Westwood neighborhoods.
There will be two events in Portage, with a Pig Roast with Public Safety in Portage Central Park starting at 4 p.m. and an event the Crossroads Mall at 6:30 p.m.
Oshtemo Township’s National Night Out gathering will be at Fleisher Field at 6 p.m.
