BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Sunday morning just after 10 a.m. The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a roof fire at ReConserve of Michigan.
The first units on the scene found fire and smoke showing from inside the building and along the roofline. The bulk of the fire was located at the roofline, beneath the roof system, which made access difficult. A partial collapse of the roof further delayed extinguishment efforts.
All workers were accounted for upon arrival, and no injuries were reported. The fire originated in a material hopper.
Crews remained on scene for approximately 10 hours, rotating personnel and working with company staff to remove smoldering contents.
Property damage was reported to be $1,000,000, no dollar amount was placed on loss of contents inside the building.
