BAY COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Residents of the 35th District of the Michigan Senate have filed a lawsuit to force Governor Whitmer to call a special election to fill the seat.
The seat has been vacant since Democrat Kristen McDonald Rivet was elected to the U.S. House last November.
The Senate currently has a razor-thin Democratic Party majority with 19 compared to 18 Republican Party members.
Whitmer has not called for the election and has not issued any statements on the opening.
The 35th District is in Bay, Midland, and Saginaw counties.
