TEXAS TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A new housing project that the owners say will bring upscale villa homes to the Kalamazoo market will soon begin construction.
Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Wednesday announced the purchase of 13.35 acres of land in Texas Township for $1.2 million, where it plans to develop The Halstead, a 55-plus active adult community.
They says The Halstead by Heritage Community of Kalamazoo is designed around a newer housing concept: hybrid living. The hybrid villas will combine the convenience of apartment-style living, with the space of a townhome design.
Phase one of community development is anticipated to include 60 villas, with the potential for a total of up to 105 in the future. It is located just west of the Q Avenue and 8th Street intersection in the area known as Texas Corners.
The villa homes will range from 1,400 to 2,200 square feet.
“People are retiring differently in 2025 and beyond,” said Matt Shankle, vice president of marketing & business development at Heritage Community of Kalamazoo. “There are a lot of new ways to live active, healthy, engaged, independent lifestyles for longer periods of time, and The Halstead is part of that new frontier in retirement living.”
