MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Pound Buddies Animal Shelter in Muskegon Township says they have seen an increase in dogs being abandoned recently.
Director Lana Carson says they are caring right now for over 130 dogs, some of them which were dumped in parks or dumpsters or left tied to trees.
She says people are getting into desperate times with some of them not being able to afford housing or being evicted, and adds irresponsible pet ownership is also playing a role as they frequently get unplanned litters.
Carson says the problem is not unique to west Michigan and is being seen across the country.
