KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety may not have derailed the X-Train completely, but you may notice this weekend, that it’s a lot quieter on Northside city streets.
City Manager Jim Ritsema says their latest strategy, a new ordinance that makes it easier for public safety to seize the vehicles of mobile party participants, has people thinking twice about whether this is a party they want to attend.
“We are seeing some results that are really helping to keep the peace in our neighborhoods.”
Ritsema says they have issued 673 warning letters by certified mail and served 192 in person.
“Only 41 chose to ignore the letters and had vehicles impounded, 6 of the vehicles were impounded more than once and eight additional vehicles are pending impoundment.”
Kalamazoo Public Safety has deployed a number of strategies to discourage the so-called X-Train nicknamed for the party drug, over the past couple of decades. So far this new one has been among the most effective.
