KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s back to school this week for Kalamazoo County’s nine public school districts, and it’s about to become a much better pathway for students who may not be college bound, and for some that are.
K-RESA’s new Career Connect Campus is opening for the first time.
The $100-million vocational training facility at I-94 and Sprinkle Road is equipped with the latest technology, some of it right off the factory floor, ready to prepare tomorrow’s carpenters, plumbers, electricians, chefs, nurses, EMTs, welders and other skilled tradesman.
Secondary programs manager Sarah Mansberger says for every Masters graduate, and every two people with a bachelor’s degree, the job market needs seven with skilled trades credentials.
She says the new centralized facility makes it easier for students to sign up and attend classes.
Until now, Kalamazoo County’s Career and Technical Education programs had been scattered in different high schools around the county, making transportation an issue.
