KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools have opened for the academic year with weapon detection systems in place at all of its middle and high schools.
Superintendent Darrin Slade pushed for the change after a student was found with a gun at Kalamazoo Central High School last year, and the systems were common in districts he previously worked in.
Parents are also happy with the detectors, saying they are pleased their children should be safer when they are at school.
KPS had been using weapon detection systems at athletic events already.
