KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The young are not the only ones who are going back to school. Classes soon begin at a very special school at Western Michigan University for local scholars at the “mature” end of the age scale.
It’s called the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute or ‘Olli’ for short and they are celebrating their tenth anniversary at WMU.
Dr. Gillian Stoltman says they offer expert instructors in a range of courses that might be of interest to mature scholars, who feel they are never too old to stop learning new things.
“We enjoyed learning when we were undergraduates, graduate school and we continue to enjoy learning throughout our lives.”)
They offer a range of courses and lectures, some on campus and some at other venues. “Some are serious, some maybe a lot more practical like how to take good photographs with your iPhone.”
Dr. Stoltman says students won’t get college credits if they sign up, but the costs are nominal and there are other benefits, like no tests, no homework, and no grades.
Classes last about a month and September classes begin soon.
Members can also take advantage of Osher Online, which permits them to sign up for live in-depth virtual courses offered through the Osher National Resource Center at Northwestern University.
To take a class, become a member, or get more involved, go to their website at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at WMU.
