KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two Kalamazoo County commissioners are calling for peace and calm following the murder of President Trump’s advocate Charlie Kirk at a rally in Utah.
The crime has sparked fears of violence against any and all elected officials nationwide.
Democratic board chairwoman Jen Strebs says there is no place for that here.
“Whatever framework or ideology we might hold, retribution is a path to destruction and you don’t have to walk down that path,” says Strebs.
Republican commissioner John Gisler says we may disagree with each other, “but we don’t ever get to the point where we’re gonna condone or activate violence and that just has no place in our country. Period.”
A suspect in the shooting, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, had his first day in court Tuesday afternoon.
He is charged with aggravated murder and was ordered held without bond.
The prosecutor says he intends to seek the death penalty.
