DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Canadian visits to Michigan are down every month in 2025 so far.
Statistics Canada says auto traffic from that country into the U.S. was down 34% for August compared to 2024.
Detroit area businesses say they are noticing the impact.
Visit Detroit’s senior director of communications Brett McWethy says the drop “has had a challenging impact on our local attractions.”
A survey this year from the Association of Canadian Studies found most Canadians no longer feel welcome in the U.S. and view the country as unsafe to visit.
