PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Portage and Kalamazoo County might soon share an emergency management staffer after the city was hit by an EF-2 tornado on May 7, 2024.
Portage officials say after the tornado hit, they posted a part-time emergency management coordinator job, but did not get any “viable applications.”
The Portage city council voted this week to schedule a meeting on October 21 to review the agreement to share the emergency management specialist with the county.
The city could pay $40,000 in the first year of the proposed agreement, the county will cover the benefits and the pay, and the employee will be full-time with the county.
