KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Nearly 2,500 people expected in downtown Kalamazoo Sunday to support hospitalized children.
Activities and on-site registration for the Bronson Children’s Hospital Run & Walk will open at 8:30 a.m., with the Run & Walk starting at 10:00 a.m. The start and finish line for the Run & Walk is on Bronson’s downtown Kalamazoo campus at Lovell and Jasper.
This year’s honorary race starters will be coaches and members of Western Michigan University national championship hockey and dance teams, and athletic director Dan Bartholomae.
Prior to the start of the Run & Walk, participants can visit two activity tents with dozens of stations for games, educational activities, face painting, small giveaways and more.
As of Friday afternoon organizers said nearly 2,300 people had registered and more than $227,000 had been raised, and those numbers continue to climb.
Bronson Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital in southwest Michigan and serves nearly 4,000 inpatients a year, plus sees thousands of patients through emergency and outpatient pediatric subspecialty visits.
The Run & Walk, hosted by Bronson Health Foundation, supports programs and services for patients and their families. Those services include child life, art and music therapy, and a NICU parent liaison. Funds also support new medical technology to treat patients.
