GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Officials at John Ball Zoo say they had to euthanize two animals this past weekend.
Forty-seven-year-old Sammy, a chimpanzee, had been at the Grand Rapids facility since 2009 and his quality of life “deteriorated significantly,” leading to them putting him down.
A kelp gull named Sunny was 42 and was also euthanized this weekend.
Zoo officials say he had developed “serious health issues affecting his movement and coordination.”
