PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, whose largest manufacturing site is located in Portage, has agreed to a new federal program that will allow U.S. patients to purchase their medicine at a significant discount.
The agreement signed this week brings U.S. drug prices into line with what consumers in other developed countries pay under the President’s new direct purchasing platform, TrumpRx.gov
It also comes with a $70 billion commitment to U.S. research and development from the pharmaceutical giant.
In a release from the company, savings for U.S. buyers range as high as 85%, and average 50%.
This is Trump’s first agreement with a major pharmaceutical company after he began putting pressure on them this summer to take steps to bring down prescription drug prices.
