WASHINGTON, DC (WKZO AM/FM) – Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga and Democratic Senator Gary Peters have introduced the bipartisan “No Budget, No Pay Act” to prevent Congress from getting a paycheck if a budget hasn’t been approved.
They say since 1974 when the last major overhaul of budget and spending laws was passed, Congress has passed a budget resolution along with all spending bills on time just once.
Huizenga says the budget and appropriations process needs to get back on track and members shouldn’t get current or back pay if they don’t pass the bills.
Peters adds their most important responsibility is to fund the government, and says “Congress has again failed to do its job.”
Huizenga asked the U.S. House to withhold his pay on September 30 until the federal government shutdown ends.
