BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There were no injuries as Battle Creek Police responded to a report of an explosion on Ridge Street that resulted in officers finding two explosive devices late Friday night.
Following a 911 call received by the Calhoun County Dispatch Center of a reported explosion on Ridge Street, both the Battle Creek Police and Battle Creek Fire departments responded to the 100 block of Ridge Street, shortly before 11:30 p.m.
When they arrived the BCPD and the BCFD discovered that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been thrown under a recreational vehicle that was parked on the side of Ridge Street. Officers located an additional IED in the roadway next to the RV, that appeared to be a small pipe bomb that had failed to function.
The BCPD Bomb Unit arrived on scene and secured the unexploded IED, and it was then taken to a secure location and rendered safe.
While no one was injured in the explosion, investigators say they believe it was a targeted incident that remains under investigation.
