KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Four properties on South Burdick Street and West Crosstown Parkway are being purchased by the city of Kalamazoo for $310,000.
The properties will pave the way for future water system improvements and more redevelopment in the area.
The city commission approved the purchase of 1216, 1222, and 1228 South Burdick Street along with 121 West Crosstown Parkway from owner Maria Hernandez. Those properties are next to one of the city’s water treatment facilities.
Public Services director James Baker says the purchase will create a wellfield isolation area and be part of the plan to consolidate and modernize treatment operations.
He says the work will tie into the upcoming reconstruction of Burdick Street in 2026 and 2027.
Residents living in the area have dealt with standing water for decades and they hope the changes will help.
