KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo City Commission Thursday ratified their contract with Malcolm Hankins to become their next City Manager.
The vote was 5 1, with commissioner Quiana Decker continuing to oppose the choice.
Mayor David Anderson says the agreement calls for Hankins to begin January 5, 2026, so the commission will have to appoint an interim City Manager at their November 17 meeting.
Current Manager Jim Ritsema retires November 18, the day after that meeting.
Hankin’s contract calls for an annual salary of $259,000 with a standard pension plan for administrative employees.
He will get five weeks of vacation annually, a $750 per month allowance for a car, and a $3500 dollar housing allowance for six months, with an option for another 6 months. He will also get $30,000 to cover moving expenses.
